Good fortune has provided that I would have a long life full of interesting occurrences, beautiful vistas, wonderful music and a plethora of natural phenomena which, alas, are falling victim to those inconsiderate things that greed inspires. As a small child I lived in a rural environment and was permitted free licence to go along a trail bordering on a marsh which was on the way to my grandmothers house. I used to be fortunate enough to see the mating dances of the prairie chickens and to watch the horned toads which were plentiful in that day. Due to the increased use of herbicides and pesticides, the ecology is changing drastically. The scissor tailed fly catchers which were so abundant range far north of where they were when I was a child. The horned toads are so endangered that they have had to impose a prohibitive fine for even touching one. I would hope that studiousness would return and that an understanding of how we must protect the ecological balance on earth would be important to those who follow us. Failure to do this will create a decline in our ecological balance which may take it beyond retrieval.
