Good luck to Paige Evans tonight and her amazing mam and dad! HERE it is. The shortlist for the Best of Wearside awards can be revealed. And what a line-up it is for our competition which culminates in the grand finale tomorrow night at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. There are outstanding contenders in every category, and the judges found it incredibly hard to narrow the field down. But now we are closing in on the big moment when we will reveal the winners in everything from the fund-raiser of the year to child of achievement. There’s a local hero, green champion, student of the year and a community group to hand out trophies to. And watch out too for our winners of the community champion, safer community and community project categories. It was an incredible response to our competition with people from all parts of Wearside putting their favourites in the running for honours. It all goes to show that there are many people in our communities, all doing amazing things. One of our judges said they wished they could choose every contender as a winner because it was such an impressive choice of candidates. But in the end, after long deliberation, the judges did select the people who are still in the running and they are all listed below. Make sure you follow the Sunderland Echo for full coverage of the awards. We will be following the progress of the competition tomorrow evening with a team of reporters, photographers and digital specialists there. Watch out for coverage on the night through Twitter and on the Sunderland Echo’s website at sunderlandecho We will also bring you a full report of the events at the competition in the Sunderland Echo on Thursday. And make sure you continue to buy the Echo to get your pullout supplement with more photographs, interviews and reaction from all of the winners in the days to come.
