Good mornin friends of the page... Hope everyone had a restful sleep and wonderful dreams! All the fur babies have been tended, Miss Chloe and I have had our mornin meds and now its time for a big cuppa mornin brew! Today is March 4, 2014. Its Hug a GI Day (Today is a day that we all can embrace. Its Hug a GI Day. Give a great big hug to any and all GIs you see today. The men and women in our armed forces deserve our thanks and appreciation. GIs perform an invaluable service to our country. They risk their lives for our freedom, and to keep us safe. A simple hug is a small thanks for this vital service to our country... if they give the impression they dont want hugged a nice big hand shake and thank you would suffice) Its Shrove Tuesday / Mardi Gras /Carnival season *movable date* (These refer to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Epiphany or Kings day and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday. The day is sometimes referred to as Shrove Tuesday, from the word shrive, meaning confess.[6] Related popular practices are associated with celebrations before the fasting and religious obligations associated with the penitential season of Lent.) Its Fasching (Carnival in Germany) Its National Grammar Day (Celebrate Grammar Day by crossing your I’s, dotting your T’s, and making sure that you’re correctly punctuating and structuring your sentences. Watch those apostrophes.... Sweet Molasses uses apostrophes like there was no tomorrow!!!!) Its Unique Names Day (Do you have any friends who have unique names? Take a moment on Unique Names Day to consider the fact that they have to go through life without ever sharing a name with a famous celebrity, being presented with personalized merchandise at fares, zoos and events, and to probably have to spell their name to everybody they ever meet. Then again, having a unique name is pretty cool, and a great talking point!) Its Toy Soldier Day (Every March 4th, Dr. Steel’s Army of Toy Soldiers embark on a worldwide mission of fun. Toy Soldier Day was established to commemorate the vision of a Utopian Play land and recognize the fine Soldiers who are making this vision a reality. Reserved as a fun filled day with creativity and joy as its prime directive, March 4th sees the celebration of both the individual and the Army as a whole, utilizing this day to its fullest potential. Whether it is simply spending the day doing something that the individual enjoys, or banding together with other Soldiers to organize a grand event, Toy Soldier Day reminds us all of the importance of having a good time!) Its March Forth-Do Something Day (Today we are urged to march forth into our lives and DO SOMETHING! Some people who write about the beckoning call of this special day encourage us to spend a bit of time thinking about our life and where we want to be next March Forth/Fourth. They challenge us to try something completely new today, and they urge us to pamper ourselves at least for a few minutes today.) Its Old Inauguration Day (The inauguration of the president of the United States is a ceremonial event marking the commencement of a new four-year term of a president of the United States. The day a presidential inauguration occurs is known as Inauguration Day and occurs on January 20 or 21st if the 20th is a Sunday. Prior to the Twentieth Amendment, the date was March 4, the day of the year on which the Constitution of the United States first took effect in 1789; the last inauguration to take place on the older date was Franklin D. Roosevelts first one on March 4, 1933.) Its Benjamin Harrison Day (In 1889 -- 125 years ago Benjamin Harrison became president of the United States.) Its International Scrapbooking Industry Day (The day when lovers of memories, paper, photos and glue come together to celebrate this immensely popular hobby. Scrapbooking is all about preserving memories whether they’re in paper, photo or letter format, or even items such as pressed flowers from your first date, ribbons from chocolates on Valentine’s Day or even an airline ticket from your first holiday with the girls, guys or without your parents, or even with the kids. All that’s needed is some glue, a decorated book or album, and some time to sit down and start sticking! Some towns and cities even have their own Scrapbooking Clubs where like-minded people meet to chat, scrap, and hold fairs where you can choose your next scrapbook design, see the latest trends in scrapbooking, and try new products ) Its Courageous Follower Day (This is not a day about playing Follow the Leader where the leader is the neighborhood rock climbing daredevil. This is a day about being brave enough to follow your heart or follow your conscience or maybe even follow your toddler through a playground maze) Its National Pancake Day (IHOP) (Celebrate Pancake Day by, you guessed it, eating pancakes! Keep it simple with flour, egg, milk and butter, or get exotic and consider a pinch of salt, ice-water, vanilla and more! Sweet or savory, pancakes are hugely versatile and go well with everything from the traditional honey and lemon to more unconventional ingredients such as rhubarb or savory mince-meat!) The food holiday is National Pound Cake Day (It is said that pound cakes can be traced back to at least the beginning of the 18th century and to commemorate this sinfully delectable delight, Pound Cake Day is now celebrated each and every year. Every year, countless thousands of those with a bit of a sweet tooth memorialize this delight by baking their own cake using ingredients of their choosing. While the pound cake is perhaps one of the better-known pastries in many different cultures, very few are actually aware of where the name originated. In fact, this term is derived from the act of using one pound of butter, eggs, flour and sugar. It is said that this was done so that those who were unable to read would be able to memorize the recipe. Thankfully, literacy rates have dramatically increased while our taste buds have remained just as loyal as they were centuries ago. It is for this reason that such a holiday proves to be quite popular amongst many cultures around the world.)
