After the fall in the Garden of Eden, death became the end of all humans by default, as it would be unbearable to live forever as originally planned by God in such fallen state. With sin also came disengagement from God, labour, misery, pain, hurts and all manners of woes. So, death was introduced to cut short the miseries associated with living in the flesh. But God, being ever considerate, also created a window for humans to reconnect with Him after death. But that would be a matter of individual choice, based on personal disposition to His laws and how they choose to live in relation to Him and their fellow humans. These would largely determine where each person ends up, with God or in the Lake of fire which is prepared for the devil, his followers and other children of disobedience.
