Good morning Beloit. It is 32 degrees and it is a bit foggy out there. Things here will be a bit busy today as we are working on our Accreditation Process where we have folks coming in from around the area to test out our process and to make sure that we are meeting the national standards before our full on-sight in a couple of months. We are working hard to try to meet some very high standards set forth by some very respected national groups. As a great community event last night I was able to help out with a Christmas caroling event at Todd and around that neighborhood. I wanted to say how impressed I was with the Beloit teachers and all of the parents that came out. It was awesome to see so many active parents taking a huge interest in doing something fun at school. As many of you note on a regular basis on here, the first major changes that have to be made to make a community better start at home. Taking pride in and being active with your little ones will help to set them up for success later. I was also really happy to see many of the neighbors so excited to see the kids come by to sing to them. Thanks Todd for putting on that event, and helping make your neighborhood better. I will have to work on my singing voice for next year. On a somewhat personal note, I wanted to take a second to remember a great friend who passed away suddenly a year ago today. Agent Steve Marshall of the FBI worked here in Beloit for several years with our local Task Force. He also was dedicated to making our city, state, and country better. Agent Marshall was awarded one of the FBIs highest honors during a tour in Afghanistan where he pulled a wounded Marine to safety while under fire. Here in Beloit he worked with many of us on our departments Tactical Team as well as with our Drug unit trying to make our community safer. He truly loved working with our PD, and we in turn loved working with him. He is greatly missed. We offer our continued condolences to his amazing wife and kids who lost so much. Our condolences to our Wisconsin FBI partners who lost one of their best. RIP Brother. We miss you. I hope you all have a great Friday. Be safe and be vigilant BeloitProud
