Good morning Beloit. It is 32 degrees out which is pretty darn cold. I know in a few months that will feel tropical, but right now, that is cold. We were pretty busy during 2nd and 3rd shift. Unfortunately it seemed like many of the calls were domestic in nature. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Sadly the pace of domestic incidents doesnt seem to be slowing. During one of the calls tonight one victim reported that she has been the victim of several domestic incidents with the father of her child. She said she has never reported it before. This is unfortunately very typical that victims dont come forward, and sometimes it ends very poorly for the family. We are here for you victims and look forward to being an advocate for you. For those of you who dont know, officers are mandated in domestic cases to make arrests if their is fear of the offender and/or there are any visible injuries. The victim becomes the state so that it can protect the victims. The system is sometimes flawed, but we try to help the victims as best we can. If you or someone you know is a victim, let us, or someone you trust help you. In one case tonight a woman was being assaulted and her kids witnessed this event. When one of the kids (12 years old) stood up for his mom, the offender pulled a knife and threatened the child with it. Needless to say that offender took a ride and will be seeing a judge. Kids should not have to be heroes, but we are proud of this young man. We hope that his mom gets the help she needs, and we are able to keep the violence away from her and her kids. We will do our part, that much I guarantee. If you or someone you know is in a violent relationship, please try to get help. I will attach a page with some numbers that may be helpful. therapists.psychologytoday/rms/prof_results.php?county=Rock&state=WI&spec=8 Have a great Sunday everyone. Hopefully you are putting the finishing touches on your awesome Halloween costumes. Maybe next week we will have folks submit costume ideas for a prize. I think the prize will be the game of Operation that kids love, but gives me a heart attack getting buzzed every time I play. I have a steady hand until I worry about a nose glowing red and buzzing on a game. Guess surgeon is out of my reach. Be safe, be vigilant BeloitProud!
