Good morning Beloit. It is 35 degrees out, and it may get up to almost 40 today. Pretty nice little Saturday. As you may have seen from the previous press release, we had a pretty wild night last night. Very few calls get officers operating at such a fine line between professionalism, and panic. When officers hear a call such as this (a small child being taken in a stolen auto), our emotions are running high. Most of us think of that as a complete nightmare scenario, and even those without kids, want to make sure that the only outcome in that situation is that the child is recovered, and the suspect goes to jail. Most times we have the tools and ability to end a situation in a fairly controlled manner, but when a person takes a little kid, we are going to be pushing our limits to get a successful resolution. Some of us have police nightmares where we cant run fast enough, cant drive fast enough, cant get our weapon to fire when needed, and when we hear a call like this, we will feel like our cars just cant get us there fast enough. It is a scary deal, and officers are doing all they can to control their adrenaline. On top of that we are feeling horrible for the family who is certainly in a panic. We are so happy that this case had a successful resolution with minor injuries suffered the child and one officer. The suspect is in jail. We have to say a huge thank you to the amazing folks that were at the scene of the traffic crash, who got the small child out of the truck in order to prevent any further injuries. They also were able to keep the suspect driver on-scene until we could add some shiny jewelry to his wrists. The only officer injuries came from one of the Sergeants who went for the child in the truck stepping on a board with a bunch of nails. He advised he felt nothing until much later when he knew that the little one was okay. Adrenaline is a cool thing sometimes! We are so happy that this family is back together with everyone safe. Have a great Saturday! Be safe and be vigilant BeloitProud #alllivesmatter
