Good morning, Brothers & Sisters, Todays readings show a distinct change of strategy in Jesus public work. Both Mark & Luke here record that the Lord chooses 12 men to be his disciples (apostles). He will now invest significantly in this small group - who will carry the Gospel to many lands! One question that Linda asked me, as we read this, was what happened to Nathaneal? You remember, a few days ago, he heard Phillips invitation to come and see Jesus. Wasnt he one of the disciples? Great question. Some Bible teachers say that Nathaneal was in fact, Bartholomew! Why? Because the name Batholomew means: Son of Talmai. So the idea is that this disciples full name was Nathanael Son of Talmai (or Bartholomew). But the thing that comes to my mind as I read these sections is that Jesus is now investing truth and life in a group of men who will continue to bring Gods Kingdom to light after he is gone. The thought also resonates with me. Who do I invest time and life into (through prayer, disicpleship, and friendship)? One day all of us will cease to walk this earth. Our influence for the Kingdom of God will one day stop. So who are we investing in with our prayers, time, discipleship, etc.? Who are the people God wants you to travel and share life with? Do they have a growing vision of God and His Kingdom because they know you? Im praying about this for myself and for you! Feel free to share what you hear todays readings saying to you! God bless you as you read. Pastor George
