Good morning, Canning and my home. I am a simple person and would be happy in a tiny home but when we built this big dome there were many reasons it was built so big. It actually is an mpac, A multi purpose activity center not a house. Here is why. It was easier to build one big building that did most of the things we needed done then many small buildings or so Elvin says. The one thing I do agree on is since we are off grid it is easier to heat one building then many buildings. We have used this building for major canning days, as a brooder, works shop, storage, greenhouse, cold room and so much more. It is why it is always a mess. So many things keep getting rearranged to make room for something. Today was canning. Instead of setting up outside we used 2 saw horses and a piece of clean scrap osb. We have 2 heavy duty burners we set up so I can get a boil fast, I make sure I open all the windows. I now have a gas stove taken out of a trailer that we picked up for free. So I cook /heat everything else on there. Anyway, the canning begins today and is going to continue off and on through to October. Today was Elvins favorite fruit, Saskatoons. I did 20 quarts and 1 pint. Tomorrow saskatoon jam. Canning is a natural way to preserve. We can choose what we put in and we can be sure it is organic and non gmo. What will you be canning?
