Good morning. Chris here early this Thursday Morning at 1:59with a Severe Weather Update. We are monitoring an ongoing MCS that is moving into and through Tennessee. At 1:59am the MCS continues its Southward progress into and through Tennessee. This MCS has just went through another cycling phase and an new bowing line segment has developed from just South of Pikeville Kentucky down to Knoxville TN, and West to Cookeville Tennessee. This MCS is going through another area that has a little more CAPE (Atmospheric Energy), some decent sheer in the atmosphere, and some favorable wind profiles. This is allowing the line line of thunderstorms to develop again and bow. A tornado warning was up for Claiborne and Hancock Counties in NE Tennessee. These line segments can spin up tornadoes where the line splits off or ends. That makes this situation in East Tennessee a little more dangerous. The atmospheric conditions required to maintain a MCS though weaken considerably as you enter the NC Mountains. Our atmosphere was worked over by severe storms earlier in the day which, in turn, should help protect us tonight. As these storms hit the mountains the should weaken. However, the mountain areas of Burke, Caldwell, and McDowell Counties could see gusty thunderstorms move into your area between 3:30 and 4:30am. The mountains stand the best/worst chance of seeing straight line damaging winds. Thunderstorms may wake the family though between 4 and 7am this morning out into the Foothills, but I DO NOT look for a widespread severe weather outbreak. We continue to monitor this changing situation and will keep you posted. Chris White Chief Meteorologist Burke Weather Incorporated
