Good morning FB Family: Its been a few days since Ive shared with all of you. This is something that is very close to my heart! The word of God gives us 10 Commandments. The 5th Commandment is the first one with a promise Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother-so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on this earth(Ephesians 6:1-3). There is a difference between obeying and honoring. To obey means to do as one is told, to honor means to RESPECT and LOVE; never to be DISRESPECTFUL by speaking bad to them or about them. Children are to obey while under their parents care, but the responsibility of honoring them is for LIFE!!! Children and parents have a responsibility to each other. Children should honor their parents, even if the parents are demanding and unfair. Parents should care gently for their children, even if the children are disobedient and unpleasant. The purpose of PARENTAL DISCIPLINE is to help children grow. The Word of God says in Proverb 13:1-3, A wise son heeds his fathers instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebuke. From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things, but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence. Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. We have not mastered self-control, if we dont control what we say. WORDS CAN CUT AND DESTROY. IN the book of James 3:3-6, James recognized this truth when he compare the tongue to a rudder on a ship. Although boats are large and driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants it to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. A great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of ones life on fire. If we want to be self-controlled, we must begin with our tongue. Stop and think before we react or speak. If we can control this small but powerful member, we can control the rest of our body. Also, Proverb 13:24 states that whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is CAREFUL to DISCIPLINE them. It is not easy for a loving parent to discipline a child, but it is NECESSARY. The greatest responsibility that God gives parents is the nurture and guidance of their children. Lack of discipline, shows a lack of CONCERN for the CHARACTER of their children. Without direction, children grow up with no clear understanding of right and wrong and with little direction to their lives. Dont be afraid to discipline your children, it is an ACT OF LOVE. Remember, however that your efforts cannot make your children wise, they can only encourage them to seek GODS WISDOM ABOVE ALL ELSE. AND CHILDREN, KNOW THAT PARENTS ARE VERY SPECIAL IN THE EYES OF GOD AND HIS EYES ARE ALWAYS WATCHING YOU!!!!! I am not perfect, but praise God, Im a work in progress.
