Good morning FB fam... Take ur tym 2 read dis pls. THE HERO WITHIN Karoly Takacs, you’ve probably not heard of him, but in Hungary, he’s a national hero. Everyone there knows his name and his story. In 1938, Karoly Takacs of the Hungarian army was the top pistol shooter in the world. He was expected to win a gold medal in the 1940 Olympic games scheduled in Tokyo, Japan. However, those expectations vanished a few months before the Olympics. While training with his army squad, a hand grenade exploded in his right hand. His shooting right hand was blown off. Takacs spent a month in the hospital depressed about both the loss of the hand and the end of his Olympic dream. Most people quit but not Takacs. Takacs did the unthinkable, he picked himself up, dusted himself off and decided to learn how to shoot with his left hand. His reasoning was simple; “Why Not”. For months he practiced by himself, no one knew what he was doing. Maybe he didn’t want to subject himself to people who would have discouraged from his rekindled dream. In the spring of 1939, he showed up at the Hungarian, National Pistol shooting Championship. Other shooters approached him with remorse and to congratulate him for the having had the courage to come watch them shoot. They were surprised when he told them that he actually didnt come to watch but to compete. They were even more surprised when he actually won. The 1940 and 1944 Olympics were cancelled because of World War II. It looked like Takac’s Olympic dream would never have a chance to realize itself. But he kept training and in 1948 he qualified for the London Olympics. At age 38 Tatacs won the gold medal and set a new world record in pistol shooting. Four years later, he won the Gold Medal again at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Tatacs- a man with the mental toughness to bounce back from anything. Important Notes: # What makes winners become unstoppable is a special characteristic that allows them to survive major setbacks on the road to success. Winners recover quickly. They take their hit, they experience their setback, they have the wind taken out of their sails, but they immediately recover. # Winners are made when no one is watching; this is why Takacs had to train alone at some point. He knew too well how many people would have tried to talk him out of his efforts. # Winners force themselves to look at the bright side of things-ANY bright side, and they say to themselves, “it is okay. There’s always a way out and I will find it” # You do not have a whole year to grieve. Take the shortest time grieving so as not to lose your momentum and drive. Tatacs recovered in just one month. When a boxer gets knocked down, he has up to just ten seconds to get back up. If he gets up in the eleventh second, he loses the fight. Remember that next time you get knocked down. # Winners get solutions no matter the circumstance. Losers will always find excuses. # Winners know that they can’t let circumstances keep them down. They understand that life is hard yes, but they cannot let life beat them down without fighting back. Winners knows too well that quitting is not an option # Winners focus on their strengths not weaknesses; Instead of focusing on what he didnt have; a world class right shooting hand, he chose to focus on what he had- an incredible mental toughness and a healthy left hand that with time could be developed to shoot like a champion once again have a wonderful Sunday #Emmy
