Good morning, Facebook! Just wanted to let everyone know that this weekend, my husband Paul announced he is leaving me, a week after our 27th wedding anniversary (apparently there is no traditional gift for this occasion, so a small stuffed animal and a divorce seemed appropriate), and also a week shy of my 50th birthday. Apparently he has been very unhappy in our marriage for a long time, and feels like this is the right time to go. He is trying to be considerate, but it has been an intense few days. I was pretty shocked, both by the news itself, and then by my own reaction. I plan to be Midwest tough, brave, and gracious in a couple of weeks, and I know I will get through this... but right now I am swirling slowly in a pool of sadness and despair that I have very rarely experienced in my life. My children, by contrast, have been amazingly composed, loving and helpful. If nothing else, we sure made a couple of wonderful human beings between the two of us :) This is strange forum for such intimate news, but I think it will spare me some of the pain of telling many people individually. Your kind thoughts are appreciated.
