Hundreds of supporters of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, on Friday trooped to the streets, protesting alleged plan by members of the state House of Assembly to impeach the governor. The protesters, under the aegis of Positive Minds Club for Teachers, converged on Fajuyi Park in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, with placards bearing various inscriptions criticising the Assembly. They proceeded from the popular Fajuyi Park to Ijigbo roundabout where they were addressed by two of their leaders. Some of the placards read, “No to impeachment,” “We want peace in Ekiti,” “Return the N100m bribe to your leader,” “No going back on June 21 election result” and Tinubu stay away from Ekiti,” among others. 2. Report says the South African government has returned the $15m earlier seized from Nigerian officials in the country over alleged illegal arm deal. This disclosure was made by South African Ambassador to Nigeria, Lulu Mnguni, at a news conference on Friday. 3. Barely 24 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan signified interest to seek re-election, the opposition All Progressives Congress has inaugurated a committee for its extraordinary convention. The 19-member committee, which was inaugurated in Abuja, on Friday, is to be chaired by the Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari. The committee is to oversee the party’s planned constitution amendment. The committee is to also oversee other activities leading to the APC convention to select the party’s presidential candidate. 4.The founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet TB Joshua has said the church would compensate families of victims who lost their lives in the church’s recent collapsed building with N750,000. This disclosure was made by the church’s spokesman, Kirsten Nematandani. 5. With the news that the Chibok girls would be released on Monday, the Borno State government has trained medical personnel at the Chibok General Hospital, on psychological counselling in order to offer professional services to the abducted schoolgirls when they arrive as promised by the insurgents. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Alhaji Ahmed Sanda, had disclosed. 6. Nigerian government and the Boko Haram Islamic sect will on Monday meet in Chad to further discuss the release of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted in Chibok, Borno State in April 2014 and for a permanent ceasefire. 7. Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has alleged that the President Goodluck Jonathan-led federal government was ‘swimming’ in massive corruption. Speaking yesterday ahead of Saturday’s mega rally, the governor alleged that there is no clear difference between funds meant for the public and those for private pockets under the present Goodluck administration. 8. President Goodluck Jonathan will on Nov. 11 formally declare his intention to seek re-election during the 2015 general election. Members of the Presidential Declaration Committee led by Dr. Haliru Bello reached a date at their inaugural meeting held on Friday inside the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. 9. Former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Annie Okonkwo has rejoined his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Okonkwo in statement on Friday after he was given waiver by the PDP to run for Senate, said he left APC because the party did not observe internal democracy. 9b. The BBOG Convener, Hadiza Usman, has issued a statement in Abuja, admitting her membership of the APC. She however said her membership of the opposition party had nothing to do with the validity of the struggle to return the girls back to their parents. 10. Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, in a reply to the statement credited to the Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, where said that President Goodluck Jonathan was the easiest sitting President to defeat, said the Kano Governor was merely expressing a personal opinion. 10b. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has condemned alleged plan to shut down markets and shops in Port Harcourt for today’s mega rally organised by the state government. The event was put together to celebrate the 7th anniversary of Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s Supreme Court victory. A statement signed by Jerry Needam, media aide to the State Chairman, Felix Obuah, said it was insensitive and smacked of lack of concern for the welfare of the people “by coercing them to remain indoors simply because an uncaring governor wants to celebrate a controversial court victory that took place seven years ago, which has caused the people more pains and backwardness.”
