Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning: Tuesday 22, July 2014 1. Former Head of State and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, General Mohammadu Buhari has said that the ongoing impeachment of APC Governor, clearly showed that Jonathan has declared war against Nigerians. He said this in a statement he personally signed, and entitled, “Pull back Nigeria from the brink”. 2. President Goodluck Jonathan in a statement by his spokesperson, Reuben Abati, has described Gen. Buhari’s statement as uncharitable and unwarranted while advising Buhari not to blame him for his party’s woes. We have noted with much surprise and regret, the statement issued by General Muhammadu Buhari in which he made some wild and totally unsustainable allegations against President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Although he tries very hard to deny it in the statement titled “Pull Nigeria Back From the Brink”, there can be no doubt that General Buhari has sadly moved away from the patriotic and statesmanlike position he recently adopted on national security, which President Jonathan publicly commended, and has now reverted to unbridled political partisanship. 2b. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), National Working Committee (NWC), has declared that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar was keeping wrong company ahead of 2015 general elections. Atiku had on Sunday accused the PDP and the Presidency of creating division and animosity in the country by linking chieftains of All Progressives Congress (APC), with terrorism. The former Vice-President noted that such accusation by the ruling party was meant to divert attention from its failure to deliver democracy dividends to Nigerians. But the national leadership of the PDP yesterday insisted that the APC has been using religion to foster narrow political ambition. A statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said while it would not want to join issues with the former Vice-President, it would not relent in its insistence “that the APC is a party of selfish, religious and ethnic bigots pursuing a Janjaweed ideology. 3. Defence Headquarters. Has confirmed through its spokesperson, Major General Chris Olukolade that two persons, a co-pilot and a technician lost their lives in the Airforce chopper that crashed in Bama yesterday. It was further confirmed that the Pilot was found alive. 3b. The Federal Government has urged Nigerians to be vigilant and inform security operatives of suspicious activities. It said the warning became necessary as the Boko Haram sect has changed tactics. Speaking at a two-day workshop on security consciousness and awareness for hotels, employers and other stakeholders in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office (SSO), Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Ibrahim Mahe, warned that insurgents had evolved new tactics to beat security, including recruiting women, abduction, armed robbery, suicide bombings, among others. 4. For shutting down many markets and hotels in Abuja, the Nigeria Army has said that the affected markets and hotels failed to put in place necessary and recommended security gadgets to avert possible attack by insurgents. Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Olajide Laleye, disclosed on behalf of the Army. 7. Ahead of the 2015 presidential election, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State, has declared that President Goodluck Jonathan cannot win any of the 19 northern states in a free, fair and credible contest. The governor made this assertion via his twitter handle @Rkwankwaso on Monday. According to the governor, he arrived at the conclusion after undertaking a survey of northern states. 8. The Department of State Security(DSS) on Monday denied the arrest of a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Denying the report, the Director of Department of States Security, Ita Ekpeyong, wondered why Ezekwesili who is currently in the Uk could claim being arrested by the DSS. 9.
