Nigeria soldiers and some members of a radical Islamic group exchanged gunfire in Zaria, Kaduna State, Friday, 25 July, 2014. According to residents in the area, the Nigeria soldiers battled for more than an hour with thousands of Shiite Muslims, leaving many injured. Mr. 10 Things gathered that shootings started after the soldiers restricted the procession of the group, around the Sabon-gari area of the town. Though details of the clash are still sketchy, but residents told newsmen that the gunfire lasted about an hour. One resident said he saw five bodies taken away from the scene of the shooting. 2. Former Military Administrator of Lagos State and governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Adamawa State, General Buba Marwa had while speaking with party delegates in Adamawa Central and Adamawa North Senatorial zones said that he will secure the ticket of the party in the next governorship election in the state. It was further revealed that the young man was arrested while trying to escape through a crowd gathered to witness the explosion. 7. The All Progressives Congress has said it will reject the outcome of the National Conference that will soon be submitted to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan. The party, having failed to send a representative to the conference has continued to term it a jamboree, saying that the expected outcome would mean nothing to the party. 8. A Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, a consultant at the Ministry of Finance, who became ill after arriving Lagos for a conference last Sunday has died of Ebola. A Liberian government official had disclosed that the news of Sawyer’s death was communicated to Liberia by the Nigeria embassy on Friday morning. 9. The family of a 28-year-old, Olayode Adeoye, who died after policemen from the Elere Division, Orile Agege, Lagos raided Ajayi Igbe Street and detained him with two others have accused the police of killing their son. Elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Tajuden Oyelola, said he could not explain why the police would beat Adeoye to death. 10. President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the 2015 general elections would be peaceful and transparent despite the ongoing crisis in some parts of the country. Jonathan said the world would be shocked by the peaceful nature of the election. Jonathan made the statement on Thursday evening when members of the Diplomatic Corps, some Senators, Ministers and former government officials joined him for the breaking of Ramadan fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
