Good morning Here is the official weather from the bridge for today as we head to Alaska Vessel Course 308 Speed 20 knots Wind 8 knots from the north east Temperature 13.6 degrees Celsius – 56 degrees Farenthingy Visibility No Sodding Fog Sky sunny What a great start to the week with a wonderfully funny welcome aboard show that featured some brilliant guests and lots of laughs. As I left the lounge I met Kyle a sight-impaired gentleman from Houston. Larry has been blind since birth but at aged 35 he has achieved so much. He works for Exon and runs marathons…….yep full on marathons including the infamous Boston Marathon when terrorists struck. He runs alongside tethered to his best friend who of course is fully sighted………………….amazing, simply amazing I listened to him talk and could not help that he had never seen his wife or his 4 year old son and I gave silent thanks that this job allows me to meet such inspirational people like Kyle. On my way back to the cabin I tried walking along deck 8 with my eyes closed and hadn’t gone more than a few steps before I was hitting the wall……imagine then running ……. around a track or the streets of Boston in total and utter blackness. I was speaking with Shorty ( Jocelyn) the new ACD here with me and soon to be Entertainment Director when she joins the Freedom. She was telling me about her time as Cruise Director recently this past April on the Sunshine. We spoke about one of the toughest days when a guest that had been involved in the Hasbro Game Show the previous night was badly injured in a Moped accident in Cozumel. It could have been much worse and he was apparently very, very lucky to still be alive today but Shorty told me how devastated the family had been . Some may say that on vacation and on a Carnival cruise we become thrill seeking, fun filled people. And that when we go home we do so to an everyday and maybe monotonous life. There is nothing wrong with being thrill seeking, fun filled people………………just make sure you chose carefully what you do ashore…………so that you get to do the coming home bit. .
