Good morning, Last night at Bible Study, someone mentioned an Amy Grant video. My mind made the leap to the Carman videos we bought for our children when they were young. We wore that VHS tape out and at the time, the kids pretty much had the lyrics memorized. During the night, I thought about one of his videos which portrays a well known concept in Christian circles and has been used to explain the necessity of Christ in the lives of people. It is the Courtroom (youtube/watch?v=nicbAjzcRrQ). I think we focus upon the debate, but as I once again watched this video, I came to the conclusion that the question he sings at the end is of greatest importance. Is your name in that book? Basically Carman is asking Have you been saved? Each funeral I have done causes me to reflect upon my life and the ministry I am trying to accomplish in the cause of Christ. For, if some do not tell, others will die in their sin, apart from God. I give God thanks that my redemption is based upon Him and what He accomplished through His Son, Jesus Christ. There is nothing I can do to earn salvation, quite the opposite. I deserve judgment, but through Jesus Christ, I live in grace. Our scripture text for today comes from one of the most misunderstood books of the Bible, Revelation. Yet, the text we read today may very well have been the backdrop for this video, Hope you enjoy. “And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, the book of life. And the dead were judged according to their works, as recorded in the books. And the sea gave up the dead that were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and all were judged according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire; and anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:12–15, NRSV)
