Good morning... Risk of Severe Weather: High Significant Weather: Snow. Ice. Frost. Wind: W or NW moderate Summary: Sleet and snow showers for many northern and western areas, otherwise predominantly dry with bright or sunny spells but cold. Forecast: Sleet and snow showers already in evidence this morning across Scotland, N Ireland, NW England and Wales will continue throughout the day leading to some significant accumulations in places. Parts of W and SW Scotland, along with N Ireland, Lancashire, Cumbria and NW England in general could see between 5cm and 10cm of snowfall by the end of day given the frequent nature of the showers. For Wales and other areas of England some wintry showers are likely and across parts of Wales some accumulations are possible too, but primarily above 200m. For central, southern and eastern areas of England a few wintry showers are possible but generally a mainly dry day is expected with bright or sunny spells but feeling cold. Into the evening and further sleet and snow showers will affect N Ireland, SW Scotland and NW England, whilst some patchy rain moves into SW England (Devon and Cornwall). Otherwise it is a dry and cold evening with frost and ice developing rapidly. This then sets the scene for a cold night ahead with widespread frost and icy conditions and with further wintry precipitation in places. Some patchy rain and showers are likely to move across the far south of England overnight and this may help to keep temperatures just above freezing here though. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 2C and 5C generally today though locally remaining near to freezing across snow covered high ground of the north. Temperatures are then expected to soon falling by the end of the afternoon onwards with lows tonight ranging between -1C and -4C generally, though locally below -5C across rural areas of the north.
