Good morning... Risk of Severe Weather: Medium Significant Weather: Ice. Heavy Rain/Showers. Freezing Fog Patches Wind: SW’ly moderate or fresh veering NW’ly across Scotland and Ireland later today Summary: A cold, frost and icy start across many areas of England and Wales with patches of freezing fog. Across Scotland and Ireland, outbreaks of rain and showers are in evidence to start the day and these moving south-eastwards through the day. Forecast: A cold, frosty and icy start across many areas of England and Wales with sub-zero temperatures after yet another cold night. Patches of fog and freezing fog are also present too and these are producing some very poor visibility locally and regionally. Across Scotland and Ireland cloud is thicker with outbreaks of rain and showers, some heavy and with sleet and snow on the hills and mountains of central Scotland. As Friday progresses many southern and south-eastern areas of England will remain predominantly dry with some bright or sunny spells, despite increasing cloud. The outbreaks of rain and showers across Scotland and Ireland this morning will progress south-eastwards into N England, Wales and the Midlands through the afternoon and then finally reaching south-east England later on this evening. Some heavy outbreaks of rain are possible and some extensive low cloud and hill fog is also likely. Where there is any snow cover across parts of N England, Wales and the Midlands, for example, then this will slowly thaw today. The rain will continue to clear south-eastwards this evening and following on behind will be clearer and colder conditions with frequent wintry showers across Scotland and N Ireland with a risk of some snow accumulations. With many areas having clearing skies overnight and into Saturday morning then some frost and icy patches seem possible tonight too, but a moderate or fresh NW’ly wind will generally prohibit any extensive frost or ice. Another cold day overall despite temperatures being a few degrees higher than most of this past week. Maximum temperatures ranging between 6C and 10C are expected across Ireland, whilst maximum temperatures ranging between 3C and 8C are expected across Scotland, England and Wales, but locally up to 10C across SW England. A cold night follows with most areas of the UK seeing temperatures near to freezing. Chief Forecaster: MH
