Good morning... Risk of Severe Weather: Moderate Significant Weather: Wintry Showers. Strong Winds. Heavy Rain. Wind: NW’ly fresh or strong, locally near gale force gusts in the north. Winds becoming W or SW’ly later and remaining fresh or strong. Summary: Cold and showery this morning, showers being replaced by longer spells of rain across northern areas with hill snow, mainly dry and bright in the south. Forecast: It’s a cold start to the day across many areas given that temperatures are only a few degrees above freezing and there is a strong NW’ly wind. A few wintry showers remain present from the overnight period across parts of N Ireland, Scotland and N England, otherwise it is a dry start to the day with some bright or sunny spells, especially across central and southern areas of England. As the rest of Sunday progresses cloud will thicken across Scotland, Ireland and N England with outbreaks of rain becoming more widespread with some locally heavy rain across western hills of Scotland and N England at times. The rain may well start off as sleet and snow above 250m to 300m but with the risk of snow decreasing through the day as milder air filters in off the Atlantic. Many central and southern areas of England and Wales whilst perhaps seeing a few passing showers should have a mainly dry and bright day, but with a trend for cloud to increase this afternoon and evening. Temperatures slowly recovering today but overall it will be a cold-feeling day given the wind. Maximum temperatures ranging between 3C and 7C are expected across Scotland, Ireland and N England and between 6C and 10C across Wales and the rest of England with maximum temperatures today probably occurring this evening. Our comprehensive outlook for the week ahead will be online later this morning and its looking like being a very interesting and busy week ahead!... Chief Forecaster: MH
