Good morning. Two thoughts this morning from things seen in the - TopicsExpress

Good morning. Two thoughts this morning from things seen in the media, neither one pleasant, but that not to be taken as a sign of ones mood this Saturday, which is actually good, because the sun is shining outside and generally speaking, all is well in ones life. Thus: 1) The school shooting in Washington: For Gods sake. Described in the Seattle newspaper as a golden boy and homecoming prince. Upset about the breakup of a relationship. And out comes the gun. I suppose there is hardly any sense about asking where a 14-year-old got a gun in America, where the NRA, with the happy help of the Republithug Party, has done everything possible to halt any and all restrictions on what is a deadly implement no matter how you cut it. What a terrible waste of lives. Again and again and again and again. Come on, America. You can do better. 2) The fact that Rachel Maddow devoted the entire hour of her show to the fact that oh, gosh, golly gee wilikers, a guy in New York got Ebola!!!! From context I understood that she was continuing the previous hour of coverage of the fact that oh, gosh, golly gee wilikers, a guy in New York got Ebola, and afterward MSNBC would be continuing its coverage of the fact that oh, gosh, golly gee wilikers, a guy in New York got Ebola. On the Maddow Show alone, this meant showing the same pictures and video over and over and over and over and over again, and basically discussing the same things over and over and over and over and over again. Just not much new to say once you note that ... well, that the guy came down with Ebola and was taken to the hospital and is now isolated and work is being done to determine who he was with while he was back from Guinea and not yet symptomatic. All the while with a BREAKING NEWS!!!! thing at the bottom of the screen even though what Rachel was discussing was by that time pretty much twelve hours old. I understand that 24/7 television needs to talk about something 24/7, but surely other things happened on Thursday. Surely some Republithug said something insanely stupid. Surely there were things to report about the election thats coming up in a couple of weeks. But no, a full hour of entirely repetitive information about the fact that oh, gosh ... I confess that I watched the first ten minutes and then fast-forwarded through the rest of it to see if Rachel would turn to anything else; she didnt. At the end she said Keep watching MSNBC for our full coverage. I was glad that I was watching just her show. And so I watched the finale of Project Runway instead. I suppose that in this day of TIVO (or whatever the more modern version of same is) there may be some Facebook friends who have not yet watched it, so I will not spoil the ending, but I will just say this about the winner: YAY! Peace!
