Good morning! Yesterday a small group of us met with Mayor - TopicsExpress

Good morning! Yesterday a small group of us met with Mayor Pedutos Chief-of-Staff to discuss the options available. In short, they are as follows: 1) Keep the park where it is and finish the original design. 2) Scale down the park in size and reduce hours. 3) Turn the trail system behind the field into an Off Leash trail system. 4) Scrap the park at Olympia and find an alternate site somewhere in Mount Washington. What we communicated with John was that, in our opinion, the only viable option would be to finish the park and use remaining funds to address specific concerns of the neighbors. These would include additional landscaping along Hallock, fencing along the stone wall to prevent the dogs that are able to climb the wall from doing so, installing the dog park specific trash receptacles and adding the benches, among others. The money is available from what was originally allocated for the park. We are opposed to scaling down the size of the park as too much congestion would be detrimental to the long time health of the park, and would not afford the dogs the necessary space to be comfortable. We are opposed to the trail system option because a) a number of safety concerns have been voiced about being completely out of sight, b) the area would be completely inaccessible to our senior members and c) the cost to make this remotely viable would be enormous. We are opposed to moving the park elsewhere in Mt Washington simply because nowhere else exists. A number of other options were studied while putting this proposal together, but to get the square footage necessary to have an acceptable sized park, the current spot in Olympia is the only one that exists. We also expressed, once again, that as a group we are adamantly opposed to taking any space away from the soccer/softball field. Contrary to what some individuals have relayed to others, that has never been a consideration of our group and we stand by that. Mayor Peduto will be making his decision in the next couple weeks, and I recommend reaching out to him via Twitter @billpeduto to voice your support for the park. The park looked GREAT yesterday and John noted how great the grass looked and clean the park is. Thank you everyone for your continued support of the Olympia Park OLEA and unceasing effort to keeping the park clean!
