Good morning all, As Joel Alroe mentioned previously, QUT - TopicsExpress

Good morning all, As Joel Alroe mentioned previously, QUT Physics Society has a new President, and that President is me, James Beattie. Im sure a few of you have already met me through the PVB units, but I many of you havent so I will introduce myself now. I am a first year physics student in the Bach. of Science program, but I have completed an a priori degree - a Bach. of Education majoring in Computing and Sciences. I have taught at a few high schools and now work at QUT as a research assistant and tutor. I am VERY passionate about science, physics in particular, and hope I can reignite the Physics Society (Joel mentioned is wasnt officially on the books for quite some time). I want to spend time to listen to some ideas people have about what they would like to see from the Physics Society, but I also have some of my own, and I have applied for funding to host a screening of the first episode of Carl Sagans Cosmos in a lecture theatre. Admittedly, the proposal was very rushed but we can still hope! I would also like to talk to UQs Physics Society, and hopefully extend our physics community far and wide. In the near future, (next year hopefully) I would like to apply for some Physics Society attire, so we can be the coolest cats on campus. We can talk about designs and such later through the year. I want to invite inspirational researchers, from QUT or abroad, to come and share their experiences with us. Hopefully instigating some informal networking - securing the Physics Societies members future prospectives, and leading to some interesting interactions, without a doubt. Of course, Im open to more ideas, I hear people like pizza and other long chains of things. I cant wait to get things rolling! I hope you are all looking forward to some exciting times.
