Good morning, all my FB friends. For those who have either enjoyed or been appalled by all my rants about trash culture, we all of us have our guilty pleasures, certainly myself included! If you enjoy watching (in moderation, of course) vocal or dance competitions, or even the occasional reality show, please do so! But one does remember, after the horrors of 9/11, so many commenting that the era of frivolity was over, and the realities and concerns of the world would now take center stage for us all (the big news story before 9/11 was shark attacks off the Florida Coast-which actually were down that year). Since then the trash has skyrocketed, as some of my posts have tried to illustrate, with so-called news programs featuring silly celebrity fluff ( Jay Z and Solange), and the newspaper that proudly prints on its front page All The News Thats Fit To Print regularly printing stuff that is no different than in the supermarket tabloids. It has been said of past civilizations that, when all the battles and politics have been forgotten, it is the arts and the culture that live on forever. It is this belief that concerns me, and I personally fear that the rest of our lives (just look at national political discourse these days) is adversely affected by the quality of the popular culture and media that, more than ever, inundates us now.
