Good morning and happy Tuesday everyone! Jesus calls us to follow Him! In order to follow Him we are instructed to deny ourselves and take up our cross daily! First and foremost, this means that we do not set aside His grace, for if righteousness could come through the law then Christ died in vain (Galatians 2:21)! We are saved because He Himself is our righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30-31)! Second, this means that by faith we let Him work in us as our sanctification (1 Corinthians 30, Acts 26:18)! In other words, we cant change ourselves. Hence, we are to deny ourselves! We are to walk in the power of His resurrection (Philippians 3:9-11) and not in any strength of our own apart from Him! This is how we reckon ourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:11)! Trust that He who begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6)! Remember that He is working in us both to will and to do for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13)! Third, we surrender our wills to Him in our daily lives! We understand that He knows whats best for us! This calling of His for us to deny ourselves and take up our crosses daily is not something to dread, but instead something to embrace! His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:30)! The point is it begins with Him and continues with Him! Youve likely heard this preached or taught in a different way that leaves you with the impression that this is something we do for Him as though we are capable in our own strength. Yet, He said those of us who abide in Him and Him in us will bear much fruit (John 15:4); and without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5)! This is something He does for us and we allow Him to do in us!
