Good morning and here is todays weather forecast for county Offaly valid from 16/7/2013 until 23/7/2013: Today Monday may start off cloudy across many areas much the same as yesterday. Indeed yesterday was dominated by whats known as anticyclonic gloom, which is where due to the vast levels of moisture being picked up as a southwesterly airmass crosses the Atlantic ocean a low level blanket of cloud develops over land and may be very slow to clear much like yesterday. For today however it looks as though this blanket of cloud will break up much faster than yesterdays cloud. Satellite images taken at 8:15 show the area of cloud already breaking up across many eastern and southern parts. Temperatures today where the cloud breaks and sunny spells develop will reach between 22 and 25 degrees, however further west across the county highest temperatures may range between 19 and 22 degrees in what will be a dry day right across the region. Tomorrow Wednesday will see an area of high pressure having originated from the azores push northeastwards across the country and stalling close too or directly over the country. The high pressure which a large central pressure of 1029 hPa is likely to persist right across the weekend and through the early days of next week also. Given its tropical origins temperatures are once again set to climb drastically across the region. On Wednesday temperatures will reach as high as 26 in many areas while on Thursday and Friday highs are likely to reach 28 degrees. At all times over the coming 10 days its likely to remain dry right across the county with the only threat of rainfall coming in the form of a few thundery showers which may break out towards the west of the county due to the extreme heat. Temperatures for the weekend at present look as though they may reach record breaking levels with temperatures on both days ranging between 28 and 31 degrees! It has been 11 days since rainfall was recorded in county Offaly and officially it takes 15 days with no rainfall before drought conditions are called. Its highly likely that by the weekend drought conditions will effect much of the country with water shortages likely across many areas as councils have already began to enforce restrictions. Make sure to hydrate properly during warm spells especially for young and old and sun cream is highly advisable due to the extremely high sunburn index! Enjoy your weather wherever you are across the region. Regards Cathal.
