Isaiah 45:4 For Jacob My servants sake, and Israel My elect, I have even called you by your name; I have named you, though you have not known Me.// Why did not The Lord give special favor to the heathen Cyrus? Why did He give victory, dominion, and glory to a King who did not even worship Him? He did it not for the sake of Cyrus, nor for the great empire that Cyrus built. He did it for the sake of His people. For that purpose He called Cyrus by name a century before Cyrus was born. For that purpose He surnamed Cyrus, or gave him an additional name or title. For surnamed the New International Version reads, bestow on you a title of honor. Everything Cyrus was, he was through Gods grace. God chose Cyrus, a heathen ruler, to overthrow the Babylonians and return the Jews to their homeland, after their long, humbling experience in exile. God can accomplish His will through people whom we might consider unlikely agents of His grace. The heroes and heroines He chooses are not always the ones we might choose.
