Good morning central/eastern central kansas, a Winter Storm Warning is now posted for much of central kansas so please scroll down for details. The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and blowing snow which is in effect from midnight tonight to 6 am CST Wednesday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect. Timing - light snow may begin in north central Kansas Monday evening with accumulating snow expected in the entire area by sunrise Tuesday. The heaviest snow is expected between 4 am and 6 PM on Tuesday with intensity gradually decreasing Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning. Total snow and ice accumulations - snow accumulations should range from 6 to 10 inches with up to 12 inches possible. Winds - northeasterly winds around 10 mph Monday night will increase with gusts around 25 mph by late Tuesday. North winds increase further with gusts to 35 mph expected Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning with widespread blowing snow. Impacts - as roads quickly become snow packed slick and hazardous driving conditions can be expected. Gusty winds will result in the potential for blowing and drifting of snow. As a result travel will become difficult and dangerous. Wind chills are also expected to become dangerously cold ranging from -13 to -18 north of I-70 on Wednesday morning.
