Good morning, dear cracking rooster (5:01am)! Today the church - TopicsExpress

Good morning, dear cracking rooster (5:01am)! Today the church remembers John the Baptist crying out in the wilderness. Are you remembering the tradition of corrida de gallo, or “rooster pull”, on the feast of San Juan, a tradition once observed throughout Spain and New Mexico? A rooster would be tied by its feet to the limb of a tree or buried alive in a small pit. Then, riders on horses would compete to grab it, usually resulting in the roosters head being separated from its body, as the Baptists was. Like the holy water St. John used to baptize Jesus, the blood of the rooster is said to baptize the earth in this driest of season (New York Times, June 24, 1995). Yep, Id be cracking in complaint, too.
