Good morning everyone! A day of increasing clouds is expected as - TopicsExpress

Good morning everyone! A day of increasing clouds is expected as our system gathers itself in the Gulf of Mexico and turns northeastward later today. Ahead of this, high pressure will crest over the region early this afternoon before moving offshore. Today: An Air Quality Alert is in effect for all of Delaware due to the high moving overhead, causing winds to be light and variable. A mostly sunny sky through high clouds is expected today before increasing high and mid-level (and eventually low-level) clouds take over during the afternoon. Precipitation may be knocking on our door from the west and southwest by 4-5 PM with a wintry mix possibly ensuing as the precipitation spreads across the Delmarva. A rain/snow or rain/sleet mix may be observed as light precip. moves northeastward. Highs in the mid 30s to around 40 north and low 40s south are predicted. Tonight: A wintry mix is expected to take over as precipitation increases in intensity. A brief wintry mix of rain and sleet should occur in northern portions of the Lower Half before changing to all rain late in the evening. Upper Half areas look to see more of a wintry mix consisting of rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain. It appears that generally, the rain/wintry mix/snow line should be moving north early in the overnight, leaving the Lower Half by midnight and continuing through the Upper Half during the middle of the overnight. It should be reaching NCC and Cecil county by around 2 AM with snow transitioning to a mix of snow and freezing rain then possibly all freezing rain for a short time, then a mix of rain and snow through the rest of the morning. More specific timing will be noted in another update this afternoon or evening. Low temperatures in the low 30s north and mid to upper 30s south are forecast. Saturday: We should come into the day with mostly rain across the Delmarva, except for our northernmost counties where rain and snow should be falling. Most of the accumulations should occur overnight Saturday before rain slows down accumulation or stops it completely. A possible changeover to all rain may occur in the northern counties as well, except possibly northwest Cecil county. Otherwise, models have been indicating some backend snow may occur in the late afternoon or evening as the storm departs and colder air arrives. This backend snowband may drop an additional inch or less across the Upper Half. This will be reassessed with the 12Z model runs later today. Have a great day and stay tuned for another detailed update this evening! --Adam
