Good morning, everyone. Today, in Bay St. Louis, our hearts are heavy for the loss of the amazing young man, Dane Knight. I wanted to dedicate todays post for he and his family. I did not personally know or hang out with Dane but I know his family and I watched him grow up since he was little. Over the years this is what I have learned about this young man. He was very active in his church, school and community. You could tell just by looking at him that he was a man of faith and a man of his word. Every person he came in contact with, he left an impression that would not ever be forgotten. He knew the definition of family and what family should be and by that he knew how to love everyone unconditionally. He was not only a role model for his younger brother, but a role model for the rest of us. I know my brother definitely looked up to him; who wouldnt? He was a beautiful person inside and out. He was strong, talented, athletic, intelligent and giving. I want to take a moment to say how proud I am of this community. It has been the most beautiful observation of a community coming together that I have ever witnessed in my entire life. We are like one enormous family and even the people who are simply from this city who have already moved away and live outside of the state are coming together and are being here for this family. I have seen an entire parish and two schools join together with open arms. I have seen everyone, all ages, no matter where they were or what they were doing, drop everything to rush to be by the side of this family. That is love. That is community. Dane already brought everyone together and he will continue to do so because of the person he was and I use was very lightly because Dane is very much still here with us. Dane will be here as long as the mind has a memory and as long as the heart has a pulse, which will be forever. Dane touched the lives of different levels of generations and just like any artist, great leader, or legacy, he lives on. On a side note, I believe he lives on through this city itself. My brother and I decided to take a walk around the Bay the day after we found out about Dane. I wanted my brother to know that I was here for him no matter what even if he wasnt really ready to talk about it yet. We walked for about two hours down the beach and just through the different neighborhoods and it was a beautiful day. Something I noticed though was that all I could think about was Dane. I looked at the sun shining over the horizon, over the sailboats and the sand, and I saw Dane. I felt like Dane was making that happen. The wind was blowing just perfectly and it wasnt too hot and it wasnt too cold. It was beautiful and I took that as a sign of him saying that he is okay and that it will be okay. I just want everyone to remember that Dane is everywhere now and is still very much alive. For those of you who are not familiar with whom I am speaking of, all I ask is that you hold Dane and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Today is going to be a difficult day for everyone and prayers and good vibes are very much needed. Today we are celebrating the life of an amazing young man. He will be forever in our hearts. Rest In Peace, Dane. God speed.
