Weather Situation A surface trough extends from a low in the southern Coral Sea to the northern tropics and through to the Gulf Country. A stable airmass extends through much of the state. Instability will increase yet again from Tuesday however as a series of troughs move through central and southern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Monday A slight to medium chance of showers and storms through the tropics north and west of about Cooktown, including the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. The slight chance of showers over the remaining east coast, more likely north of about Townsville. Some showers and a possible storm or two over the Granite Belt and southeastern Darling Downs in the afternoon. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds along the east coast. Light to moderate northeast to northwesterly winds elsewhere, fresh at times in the west during the morning.
