Good morning, family! Yours truly is back with yet another RANT! This time youll find me in one of my FAVORITE passages of scripture, which happens to have been written by my FAVORITE biblical author. Amos 5:21-24, GODS WORD DECLARES, I HATE, I DESPISE your feast days, and I DO NOT savor your sacred assemblies. Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I WILL NOT accept them, nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings. TAKE AWAY from Me the NOISE of your songs, for I will NOT hear the melody of your stringed instruments. But let JUSTICE roll down like water, and RIGHTEOUSNESS like a mighty stream. God is telling Israel through the Prophet Amos that their worship doesnt please Him. Things were well for the Hebrew people, so they were living a comfortable and complacent existence. As a result they would SHOUT CHURCH DOWN DURING WORSHIP, while making NO EFFORT to live according to Gods rules. This speaks DIRECTLY to us today, as many within the church are EXPERTS at participating in praise breaks, but make no effort to OBEY GODS COMMANDMENTS! GOD CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH ALL OF IT! HE KNOWS WHEN IT IS GENUINE WORSHIP AND WHEN IT JUST FOR SHOW, BECAUSE HE KNOWS THE HEART OF EVERY PERSON! LET ME BE CLEAR, there is NOTHING wrong with shouting, because God encourages us to praise Him. HOWEVER, we ALSO NEED TO PRAISE HIM THROUGH OBEDIENCE! God DOES NOT expect perfection, BUT HE DOES EXPECT A CONSCIOUS EFFORT TO OBEY! Whats the point? If you know how to shout but you dont know how to love, GOD IS NOT PLEASED! If you know how to run but you dont know how to forgive, GOD IS NOT PLEASED! If you know how to scream but you dont know how to treat people, GOD IS NOT PLEASED! If you know how to speak in tongues, but you dont know how ACKNOWLEDGE GOD IN EVERY AREA OF YOUR LIFE, GOD IS NOT PLEASED! If you know every theological concept that Seminary can teach, BUT YOU HAVE NO COMPASSION FOR OTHER PEOPLE OR CONCERN ABOUT THE REALITY OF SIN, GOD IS NOT PLEASED! We cannot outshout our lives, so living a godly life should be JUST AS IMPORTANT as any outward expression of worship!
