Good morning fellow constituents. I had a chat with the Managing Director for ZESCO, Mr. Cyprian Chitundu, about the power outages, occasioned by the shutdown of Musonda falls. We both acknowledged the need for the upgrade of Musonda for this will provide a sustainable source of stable electricity, which is essential to support economic growth in Luapula. However we agreed that the sensitization was inadequate and the disruption to businesses and livelihoods of the residents would collapse the local economy. He promised he would ensure temporal measures are put inplace to minimize the disruption. We agreed to compare notes on Wednesday 15th October, 2014. I have received complaints from residents of Namwandwe about exagerated connection fees being demanded by Zesco in conjunction with Mansa Municipal council. My discussion with Cyprian revealed that there was no MoU with the council to lump fees, as high as 8000, with the subsidised Zesco connection fees of 150. I will immediately direct the Regional Manager to stop the collusion with the council and start accepting the reduced connection fees and connect residents to the grid. This weekend I will be visiting my constitutency again, focusing on Nsonga, Mibenge and Kale. I wish all of you a great weekend
