Good morning folks and welcome to a new week... Currently in Edmonton its 0º with a windchill of -5º and there is a chance of light flurries later this evening. FMM is -13º and -20º with the wind and LLB is checking in at -7º, -12º with the windchill. So far so good on both Hwy 63 and Hwy 881 and there are no new collisions to report.... Both Hwy 63 and Hwy 881 are in FAIR winter driving condition this morning and there are some compact and slippery sections to be mindful of as you head out. Also, there are a few posts about poor visibility between Wandering River and Mariana Lake. When driving in these types of conditions, driving to the conditions means, you adjust your driving to what you EXPECT will be on the road... If youre entering a curve and you anticipate some slick conditions, simply let your foot off the throttle and glide through the curve, rather than pressing the brakes. The super loads will be rolling north at sun up (depending on road conditions) and as always, please pass them with care. Please slow down in the construction zones folks... With the slick conditions, you need all the time you can muster, to be able to slow down and even stop. So please watch for traffic control in the construction zones. Lastly... There were three fatalities on Hwy 881 last week, in three consecutive days. Obviously the Take it easy message isnt getting out there. Snow tires or not, when it gets icy out there, you need to slow down and adjust your driving... 4WD and snow tires only gets you moving more quickly, from a stand still, they DO NOT help you stop as though the roads were bare and dry... Thats all for this morning folks. Ill update if and when needed Stay safe, drive to the conditions and remember... Someone is expecting you home tonight KCCO highway63roadreport
