Good morning friends! Mum and I are going to be at Kawana Waters - TopicsExpress

Good morning friends! Mum and I are going to be at Kawana Waters Shops today, outside of the Terry White chemist, gathering donations, selling badges and handing out flyers for the Karl McManus Foundation. Our goal is to raise awareness of tick-borne illnesses in Australia, promote safety measures for when youre out in tick areas, (unsurprisingly, an awful lot of active, outdoorsy types end up sick and housebound), and of course raise money for research into the pathogens, to create accurate testing for them, and to educate and train doctors in diagnosis and treatment of Lyme-like infections in Australia. September 16th is Lyme Gladiolus Day (the green Gladiolus is the charitys flower), so this month is when youre more likely to see stuff about Lyme about the place. Please come and say hi if you see us, drop a gold coin in the donation tin, and definitely take a flyer on how to prevent tick bites and also how to identify early symptoms of tick-induced illnesses. Ideally, we would have main-stream testing (because you dont always know youve been bitten by a tick) done periodically for people at risk, because unless you get really ill straight away, most people dont realise theyre sick until the ten to 20 year mark, when all the niggling little issues obviously coalesce into one very sick individual. This also means that people who dont know theyre sick have children, and so many kids are being born sick, and it isnt right. Were not a very well known charity, and as people usually hear about the charity when theyre looking for help and suspect that either they, or a loved one, may have the disease, and so a lot of volunteers are ill and cant do that much. SO, if you were wondering about volunteering, come see us there, too! Or drop me a line on Facebook. We need some healthy volunteers so we can plan events - we have a few people who want to help out but due to scheduling conflicts it often ends up just Mum and I. And if you ever want any information on pathogens and symptoms etc, dont hesitate to shoot me a message. We have an awful lot of helpful information we can email you, and you can also access information at the Karl McManus Foundation website, karlmcmanusfoundation.org.au
