Good morning, friends. Today is July 7, 2013. “What greater blessing to give thanks for at a family gathering than the family and the gathering. “ ~Robert Brault, Today is the day that I visit the Shrine in St. John with my dear friend Kyle by my side. I know the experience will be inspiring as well as rewarding and am elated that I feel well and ready for the journey. Yesterday was a day filled with supervision. Yes, I was the supervisor while Brian took on the task of painting my family’s old kitchen table and chairs to my liking. When done, they will look great – silver with the flower pattern on them accented in purple. This set has followed me for many years now, and I still marvel at how small it is to have sat a family of 6 every night for dinner for all those years growing up. Not the most comfortable seating either – wrought iron—but I can still picture it in our tiny kitchen with the indoor/outdoor wild print carpeting. Canary yellow. Five-thirty on the dot was dinner time every night – be there, no excuses. But then again, you wouldn’t want an excuse. Mom was a wonderful cook and cooked every night from scratch without fail. Dinnertime in the childhood hood... the Henderson crew down the street had their own means to be called to the dinner table—the infamous bell. This bell rang through the neighborhood when it was suppertime or time to call it a day -- off to the races was Joel, Janet, Rick, Jimmy, Julie and Jay (yep, many J’s there!)... Funny how you remember things like this so many years later. I actually had thought of using the bell method of summoning my kids when they were young – it worked so well for the Hendersons! Do you remember daily family dinners from the past? Such a lost pastime it seems nowadays. Heck, Brian and I ate our steak dinner at the kitchen island last night rather than on the couch in front of a TV set -- different! It felt good though. I guess spending so much time with the old kitchen set during the day had an impact on us and subtly inspired us to go the old-fashioned route for a change. Try it sometime if you have gotten away from it. It’s rather nice.. The deer appeared in the back again today. She wasn’t there at 7.30 in the morning though. She came to visit at 7:30 at night. Loved having her! Wishing you a day filled with bright beginnings, my friends. Enjoy the peace of the day as well as the adventure. Enjoy a rose.. Love to all. EXCERPT from “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young: “July 7: Trust Me in all your thoughts. I know that some thoughts are unconscious or semi-conscious, and I do not hold you responsible for those. But you can direct conscious thoughts much more than you may realize. Practice thinking in certain ways – trusting Me, thanking Me—and those thoughts become more natural. Reject negative or sinful thoughts as soon as you become aware of them. Don’t try to hide them from Me; confess them and leave them with Me. Go on your way lightheartedly. This method of controlling your thoughts will keep your mind in My Presence and your feet on the path of Peace.”
