Good-morning, happy Friday! In 1997 a movie titled Contact Jodie Foster played a Seti scientist the protagonist Dr. Eleanor Ellie Arroway the book was based on Carl Sagans novel of the same name (1979). The film opens with a wonderful view of a beautiful home with a roof deck below a bright and starry sky. You see two telescopes on the deck. The scene crossfades into showing Ellie eight or nine years old. Ellie and her father are looking through the two telescopes spotting and identifying stars. The camera fades and pans to a small room inside the home on the second floor where she has this big ham radio station room and shes repeatedly saying in the mic CQ come in until she gets a response. Ellie then identifies the location of the voice tags it on her wall map. Next scene fades to the bedroom where she is getting ready for bed and she asks her Dad is there any life out in space? Her Dad responds, I dont know Sweetie if there is its an awful lot of wasted space. Its one of Carl Sagans most famous sayings. The whole opening was personal and compelling. Our insight begins in our 27th sub point f Blessing of Forty Things @ Salvation through faith alone in Christ alone: f. The Flesh Versus The New Spiritual Species. 1) Galatians 6:11-18, “See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. 12 Those who desire to make a good showing in the flesh try to compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they will not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. 13 For those who are circumcised do not even keep the Law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. 16 And those who will walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. 17 From now on let no one cause trouble for me, for I bear on my body the brand-marks of Jesus. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.” I bet your wondering, what does a Seti Scientist searching for extraterrestrial life have to do with being circumcised? Thats a fair question. You see, in 1979 they didnt know that space was filled to the brim with dark matter and black holes. Its never been empty, darkness is not emptiness. What they saw appeared empty but what they couldnt see its fullness! In the time the bible was written a massive movement called the phallic religion (cult) had swept that part of the world. Plus the Jewish religion with its Old Testament circumcision practices pretty much dominated the scene. They couldnt focus on the new creature. Obviously being a new creature got lost in the noise. Paul states in Gal 6:15 For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. The World today does the same asking are we alone? Or, can we transcend to a better being? When the Word of Truth, the completed work of the cross of salvation the Bible all point to the new creature and the answer no, we are not alone! Faith alone in Christ alone is a shift from the seen to unseen. Heb 11:1, Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Have a great Friday be safe out there.
