Good morning my friends. Yes, it’s good to be back home again. - TopicsExpress

Good morning my friends. Yes, it’s good to be back home again. Vickie was here for about a hour before she left for the beach to spend a few days with Lisa and the grandkids. That’ll make a bunch of people happy. She surely is enjoying being grandmother to the youngin’s and she is a great one, too. I am truly by myself while Vickie is gone and since Gigi is no longer here. I was reading yesterday afternoon and decided to rest my eyes for a moment and I could have sworn I heard Gigi barking at somebody at the door and I woke up a little confused. I have been confused a lot lately; I sure hope that is no sign of things heading my way in the near future. I thought about heading to the mountains today and I’m still not sure where I’ll end up. I’ll probably stay here and work since the price of gas is so high and I really need to work on all those pictures I made at the North Carolina District Convention this past weekend in Cary. I think I will make a separate album of the pics I made at Yate’s Mill Pond. I have wanted to photograph that place for years, but have always been in a hurry or heading to the Outer Banks or somewhere east of Raleigh. I made several pics of the pace, but being summertime, all the foliage was one shade of green or another. I just might have to go back there in the fall and try to capture some colorful leaves to spice up my photographs. I have this book of interesting facts that I read once in a while and have discovered some tidbits of information that explained a lot to me. Did you know that the ability to taste sweets decreases with age? That’ll explain why us older folks tend to gain weight as we get older, we just can’t taste that sweet stuff as easily as we used to could taste it when we were younger…that makes sense to me. Now Vickie will totally disagree with this next thing I read: It says, and I quote…”On average, people who have asthma hear better than people who don’t. Nobody knows why.” Well, I have had asthma most of my life and Vickie declares that I can’t hear her when she talks. Well, for one thing, she speaks very softly, unless of course, she wants to get her point across and believe me, I hear those points loud and clear. I read that familiar odors revive old memories more easily than familiar sights or sounds do. I know that I can remember days of my childhood when I inhale the odor of pinto beans cooking or the smell of biscuits baking in the oven. I remember with great fondness smelling the wonderful odors wafting from the Mooresville Bakery near the flour mill when we drove by there on Main Street. I will always smile at the odor of fresh ink because it reminds me of the days I spent at Hall Printing Company in High Point while printing my limited edition prints. And my friend Kate-Kennedy Holliday brought in her new puppy for a visit the other day and that new-puppy-smell brought back precious memories of Gigi and other little dogs of my childhood. I don’t know if I totally agree with the book’s analogy on that smelling thing or not because I sure do have lots of precious memories to come to the surface when I look at old photographs of days gone by. Pictures of relatives that have passed away often bring smiles and tears. Pictures of landmarks that have been torn down in the name of progress often remind us of the good old days. I thank the Good Lord for all my senses, but the sense of sight is one of the most precious, but I pray I get to keep all of them as long as I live…I don’t want to miss anything. Have a good day and maybe we’ll get a gentle rain sometime today and that will make the gardens grow. It’s getting time for a good ol’ tomato sandwich. God Bless!!
