Good morning students. Welcome, once more, to a history of the Middle East and a way of framing the Israeli opposition to Hamas, Take this analogy, if you will. Country A attacks country B unexpectedly and without provocation. Country A kills a number of civilians as well as military targets. Country B, has had its borders violated and has incurred civilian casualties. Country B decides to decimate country A. Country B counter attacks with a crushing response, In order to prevent any further provocations. Unfortunately, during country Bs counter attacks scores of women, children and non combatants are killed by country Bs withering assault of country A. Country B further invades the territory of country A, dismantles its military completely and leaves a standing army there for a number of years to prevent any future attacks. No one criticizes the counter attacks of country B, since any other sovereign nation would have also destroyed the infrastructure of the enemy and incurred thousands of civilian casualties. Now you understand the analogy of country Bs total decimation of country A. However, the entire analogy is built on WW 2. Substitute Japan for country A. Substitute America for country B. A little over 70 years ago,the Japanese launched an unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor and then threatened they would take the battle to the shores of California. America then launched a four year counter attack, killed 2 million Japanese soldiers and (regrettably )500,00 innocent Japanese civilians and completely destroyed a number of Japanese cities. The US remained behind for many years (as they did in Germany) in order to,dismantle the murderous military of Imperial,Japan. Unfortunately, withering counter attacks, extreme force, and the death of civilians is what happens in wars. The aggressor (Hamas and its offshoots)) should have thought of that when they launched missile attacks and built underground tunnels to infiltrate Israel. No body second guessed the US when they crushed Japan. It was all logical. Sad, but logical. Everybody second guesses Israel, because its...Israel. With this, our military analogy is now complete.
