Good morning, the word for today is greet – to address with expression of kind wishes upon meeting or arrival. What is your favorite greeting? According to geographical location it might be “Hello,” “Hi,” “Hey,” S’up (what is up?),” “Greetings” and other phrases in foreign (to us) languages. The more common “hello” is actually derived from “hallo, hullo or halt” – a shout to attract attention – “Stop! Look at me!” Today we typically use our greetings to acknowledge the presence of another person. But a greeting can be more than an invitation to stop and pay attention or to acknowledge. Hebrew people greet with wishes of “Shalom” - completeness, soundness, welfare, peace. When Jesus came as our savior, even the common greeting changed from “Shalom” (peace) to “Charis” and “Shalom” (grace and peace). Paul, Peter and John used this greeting in their writings. It is a wish a person we greet to experience both grace (favor of God) and peace (soundness of mind, emotions and body found in Christ)! “John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the us to be a kingdom, priests serving God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen (Revelation 1:4-6).” Grace and peace for your day!!
