Good morning to all our followers. We hope that you are all well. We arrived in Gibraltar this morning at 8am after nearly three days at sea from Malta. We will be busy again photographing and socialising today. Few European destinations can boast such a rich combination of history and culture in such a small area as Gibraltar. Having been governed by the Moors, the Spanish and finally the British, it is not always easy to discern where one influence ends and another begins. During World War 1 the Rock was valued as a base for the Allied Navies. Its strategic importance was once again demonstrated in World War II when, shortly after Italys declaration of war, the famous Force H was assembled at Gibraltar for the protection of the Malta convoys. Immense preparation were put in hand to resist possible attack and vast caverns and tunnels were hewn out of the Rock so that the entire garrison could retire underground in the event of a siege, We will be departing Gibraltar later today to cruise back to Southampton UK. We will be arriving there at 7am on Monday 16th June. We will be posting some of our photographs on our Facebook page after our return to the United Kingdom.
