Good morning to you on this ever so beautiful Saturday, friends. It is full moon and the sea is quite loud this morning...it promises to be a lovely, sunny day. I am so glad that we will have our gardener fixing up our garden today, before we embark on the long journey to Gauteng on Monday. I was reminded this morning again about priorities in our lives and how important it is to make a distinction between what is urgent and what is important. We spend so much (sadly, most of) our time on things that we label as urgent i.e I have to take/make this call, read/send this e-mail, organize/attend this meeting, work through this document, so I cant play with you, read to you, attend your rugby game, sit and chat with you, spend some time with you my wife/husband/child/mom/friend, because I have all these urgent things to take care of in order to have enough money to put you through the best schools, send you to the best university, buy you all the stuff you want....when all you want is my time, my attention, my love, my affection (which are the important things in life). We have so many bad, sad, unworkable relationships in our lives because we spend 90% of our time on urgent matters and only 10% of our time on important matters. Maybe we need to reconsider our priorities and do a reverse...spend much more time on the important stuff so that the urgent stuff is not so important and much less needed. Just a thought: the more time we spend on the real important things (read: people) in our lives, the less necessary it will be to spend time on urgent things. The love, time, affection and attention we give to our loved ones will be valued much more than the money, possessions, gadgets, equipment etc. that we think they need. Get the balance right between urgent and important...you WILL reap the benefits. Have a lovely Saturday, amidst the load shedding.
