Good morning world---here is some food for thought (not all original, picked up on from a talk by Jonathan Trent). At some point in history most societies changed the way they provided for basic food needs---no longer hunter/gatherers (to bring food home to the hut or cave), now more complex social organizations to cultivate food for communities. Today, energy production for a modern society is still mostly in the hunter/gatherer stage---but the hunting and gathering has gotten harder and harder--fracking hard to reach pockets deep within the earth for natural gas, and turning northern Alberta into a vast wasteland to extract crude oil from the pristine wilderness sands. Nuclear power is an attempt to cultivate power, but poses significant risks, with potentially disastrous consequences. Nevertheless, it is time to move past the hunter/gatherer phase for our energy needs to cultivate clean energy to power our way of life. If you believe this would be nice but not possible you are wrong. Promising alternatives are here and around the world--The Tesla; Sun, Wind, and Geothermal energy; and promising developments in Nano tech and Fusion (time will tell)-- it is clear that the science is there to cultivate energy that is green, sustainable, and clean--all new construction (residential and commercial) could be designed around an energy independence principle---for example, combing passive and active solar, in combination with geothermal, is usually sufficient, though costly. And the Tesla is a helluva car. There is a way. Have we the will? https://youtube/watch?v=XPWZym4mA6E
