Good morning world! Looking forward to Power Talk With Eusebius Mckaiser in 4 minutes... I hope! Remember you can listen on-line at powerfm.co.za OR via TuneIn radio app OR at 98.7FM in Gauteng and 103.6FM in Soweto and surrounding areas.... Call us throughout the show to engage any of the topics, and guests on 0861 987 000... Reminder of todays menu: We kick off with the Power Line at 9am, which is a free space to start any debate under the sun, reflect on the meaning(lessness) of life, or just make fun of Bafana as a bunch of losers..... Some issues on my mind I wanna put on the table: a) middle-class guilt: do you ever experience this in a country like ours with gigantic inequality? I think for some of us (especially first generation wealth creators/high income earners) the feeling might best be described, actually, as survivors guilt... b) There is a lot in the Sunday papers I enjoyed, and worth us unpacking a bit. I thought the lead of the Sunday Times is not important but in a way that is instructive: the DA really does not get the ANC voter, nor the prevaricating or fence-sitting voter, if it thinks Glynnis Breytenbach is an amazing secret weapon to have on your party list.... and many other news and opinion pieces; c) I also want to open up the debate I start in my column tomorrow about journalists and party political membership & affiliation. At 10am we debate whether or not there is a moral duty on pharmaceutical companies to enable a relaxation of intellectual property rights in order to help us fight public health challenges successfully. This is obviously in the most recent context of the spat between the health minister, and some companies. 1030am see us debate whether or not R 12 500 salary demands in the mining sector are economically feasible. Steering Wheel: Brilliant Prof Van As a joins us to talk about child safety, and car accidents. I listened to him giving a BRILLIANT, insightful presentation last week, and just jad to bring him onto the show. We end the show by debating the rand at 1130am: Is the rand plummeting because of mostly exogenous factors? Or does the SA state, and our private sector, have to take some flak too? Or, are the fluctuations not worth losing sleep over? Financial journalist Stuart Theobald & Inkunzi Investments Clive Ramathibela-Smith debate. Power Talk With Eusebius McKaiser.
