Good morning world! The support Ive received has been overwhelming. Im sorry that I cant reply to all of you individually, but Im trying to keep up with it as best as I can. I slept pretty well last night and the staff at UC hospital are taking excellent care of me. Yesterday, I got up and sat in a chair (with a lot of help lol) for a couple of hours. Im eating solid food and drinking without issue. The plan for today is to take my chest drain tube out and leave sicu for a normal room. They are projecting that I should get to leave around Saturday/Sunday. Ive had a lot of offers to come visit me, and thats terrific...the more the merrier. I will post my room number when I get relocated later today. A lot of peoplele have asked what happened. I cant say exactly what went down...things happened pretty quick. Maybe Jared Hatfield has a few more details and can help me out here. I was working an ash removal. I had taken the extraneous weight and was butt hitching the top out. When the load caught on the hitch, the whole trunk failed and I rode it about 35 to the ground. When I landed, another chunk kicked over and caught me between the shoulder blades pretty hard. EMS had to cut me loose from the spar, as I was bucked and tied into it. Thats about all I remember of it, aside from bits and snippets of being loaded up and taken to UC Trauma and waking up on Tuesday. I cant stress enough that the tree seemed fine on preclimb inspection. About 18 dbh and solid all the way up. I didnt think twice that it would take the load. So please...if youre a climber and reading this...take a few extra cuts if youre working in ash. Theyve clearly become unpredictable and I hope no one has to suffer thru what Im enduring now.
