Good morning yall. As I continue my celebration of you all, allow me to introduce you to mom/Ba. As her husband fought a losing battle for democracy against a communist force, she attempted to maintain a normal life for her family. On April 19, 1975, all of the came to an end. When the call came, she possessed the courage to grab her three children and leave behind her husband, her mother, her sisters and her brothers. Not knowing whether she would ever see her husband again, she boarded a plane with destination UNKNOWN. What was known to her, was that her life would never be the same, but her childrens lives needed to be saved. As we began our journey in this free nation, she worked as a seamstress sewing clothes by day and was mom by night. Those were some long hours and hungry days We lived off of the kindness of strangers to survive until we could provide for ourselves. While we were on public assistance, it was made clear to me that it was NOT our way of life. As a former educator in Vietnam, she stressed the value of education although she couldnt understand English well enough to help us. Her emphasis on Faith, Family and Community guided me to this very moment where I celebrate my children, our community and my faith. She stayed married to the man she fell in love with in Vietnam with for going on 47 years. Yes lawd, I understand that some of that was love, some parts faith and a lot of it was for her children. Their anniversary is coming up on Nov. 5. We fought hard for for our citizenship in 1985 so we could vote. So can you all do us a favor? Especially those born with that right? On this Nov. 4, can you please go out and vote? So we you see her or meet her, can you do me another favor? Give her a hug and tell her job well done. #dothyduty
