Good news! :-D Another SeaWorld corporate partnership is ending, this one with Panama Jack. The Orlando-based sunscreen company had sold its products in some SeaWorld locations since the mid-1980s. Lynn Martenstein, a spokeswoman for Panama Jack, said the company recently informed SeaWorld it would end its partnership as of Feb. 28. Martenstein said Panama Jack did so “based on business reasons” and would not elaborate. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it wrote to Panama Jack on Oct. 21. After several follow-up e-mails and calls, we received an e-mail on November 12 from Lynn Martenstein that Panama Jack would be ending its SeaWorld sponsorship for “business reasons” when the contract is up in February, though the company has already removed SeaWorld’s logo from its website, spokesman David Perle said in an email. SeaWorld and corporate partners have been the target of animal-rights activists because of its captive killer whales. The issue of captive marine mammals has received more mainstream attention after last years documentary Blackfish. The company has acknowledged that negative publicity has been part of the reason attendance has declined at SeaWorld parks. SeaWorld and Southwest Airlines ended a 26-year partneship earlier this year. Virgin America dropped SeaWorld from its frequent flier program last month.
