Good news! Te Mata Primary School in Havelock North has decided to move Religion Instruction to Opt in. This is the outcome of a community survey carried out 2 months ago. The results were: Opt out - 51.25% Opt in - 48.74%. In making our decision, the Board considered these results along with weighing up the declining participation and the increasing difficulty for the school to provide RI within class time....With increasing numbers choosing to opt out, our resources are stretched and this is not sustainable. We have also surveyed teacher reps who have given further insight from a teaching perspective. I approached Te Mata Primary school with my concerns last year after listening to Sean Faircloth. The Principal has been fantastic, and with a change in the BOT (the last Chairperson was an evangelist) I have found they have been receptive to my concerns. Id like to thank SEN for the support they have given me and for bring this issue to the public forum.
